Jess was the first Flatcoat to join our
household and has taught us so much. She was a versatile dog competing not
only in the show ring but also in agility and obedience. She gained her
Studbook number in the breed ring, qualified and worked at Crufts in YKC
obedience, Triathlon and Biathlon. She even tried her hand at Flyball
which she enjoyed very much!
Jess was an ideal introduction into the
breed as not only could she compete in a range of activities but was of
such a nature that she will tolerate most things - ideal for a novice
handler. She also enjoyed working with younger members of the YKC being
ever so happy to please them.
Whilst being a great dog to train Jess could
be independent, she used to think nothing of running off to the nearest
water source when it was several fields away, fortunately a habit she grew
out of. She loved a cuddle but it had to be on her terms, usually meaning
pinning you into the settee.
Having attended Crufts 2005 Jess was retired
from all activities and enjoyed going through her second puppy hood, no one
told her she was retired from agility with joint problems and that she
shouldn't be jumping on tables and worktops!!!!!
We sadly lost Jessica in April 2008, after 10
great years with her. She taught us so much and will be greatly missed.
Thank you Mary for such a lovely introduction to the breed, you broke us in
gently with such a great dog - She was so easy compared to what's followed!
If it wasn't for Jessica we wouldn't be where
we are today in many aspects.
